Notes from a small island A weblog by Jonathan Ali |
Saturday, January 18, 2003 This one's sure to annoy Patrick Manning, his sidekick Glenda Morean and everyone else frustrated with the government's inability to implement the death penalty: the Privy Council has ordered the release of two men who have spent the last 17 years on death row. According to the story in today's Express, the Law Lords ordered the release because in their opinion the trial judge gave inadequate instructions to the jury. Further, the shorthand notes of the judge's summation were lost before the case came to the Appeal Court. Once again, the shortcomings and plain incompetence of our juducial system makes it clear why, in addition to all the other reaons, the death penalty simply must go. posted by Jonathan | 7:25 PM 0 comments 0 Comments: |
