I've just had a wonderful reminder of how life-affirming great rock and roll can be. "Honestly", the first single from the Smashing Pumpkins' former frontman Billy Corgan's new band, Zwan, is a rousing, sweeping melody-fest that recalls the early Pumpkins, Pumpkins at their exhilerating, electrifying best. "There's no place I would be without you," Corgan coos over and over, his voice borne aloft by the soaring guitars. No angst, no irony, just love. Well, it is Valentine's Day...
