Notes from a small island A weblog by Jonathan Ali |
Tuesday, February 11, 2003 So the World Cup has seen its first on-field shocker to match the off-field shocker of the Shane Warne scandal - Canada, in their first ever official one day international, today defeated Bangladesh, by 60 runs. Alright, so Bangladesh are hardly cricketing giants, but this one still ranks up there, though not in the same league as the West Indies defeat to Kenya in the 1996 World Cup. Worth noting is the composition of the Canada team, which is coached by Trinidadian and former West Indies batsman, Gus Logie. Most of the members of the team are immigrants - there are a couple of Guyanese, a couple of Trinidadians, a couple of Indians, a Jamaican, a Kittitian, a Sri Lankan, and a Grenadian. A remarkable motley team, and a remarkable victory. posted by Jonathan | 10:36 PM 0 comments 0 Comments: |
