Notes from a small island A weblog by Jonathan Ali |
Tuesday, November 04, 2003 Noel Coward made some remark about the potency of cheap music... sometimes great songwriting isn't the point. A couple of chords, a good melody, and some words can mean more than a seven hundred-page novel. Not a good seven hundred-page novel, mind you, but more than say, a long Jacqueline Susan novel. Well, alright, I really liked Valley of the Dolls. -- R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, from the liner notes to In Time: The Best of R.E.M. 1988-2003. (Two CDs. 33 songs. 38-page booklet. Sometimes, I'm very happy.) posted by Jonathan | 8:23 PM 0 comments 0 Comments: |
